Nelson Project Funding
Nelson strives to build a stronger, more vibrant community for all our residents.
We're proud to provide financial support to programs making a genuine difference in our neighborhood. These programs share a common goal: improving the lives of our community members. Whether through education, mentorship, or direct aid, these initiatives embody the spirit of service that shapes Nelson Neighborhood.
Last month, your Community Development team approved funding for two such programs.
Lions Club Back to School Bash
Our first request was from the Fruitport Shoreline Lions Club to assist with funding their annual Back to School Bash. This event provides students with essential school supplies and ensures every child starts the school year with a solid opportunity to succeed.
A picnic meal and entertainment make it a fun-filled event for the kids and their families.
We'll share the final details of this summer's Bash in our August newsletter.
Because we expect an even larger turnout than in previous years, Nelson Neighborhood is proud to donate $1500 to this excellent program.
Spataro Remembrance Funds
Last year, many of us mourned the passing of Larry Spataro.
A long-time Nelson resident, city commissioner, vice-mayor, and avid supporter of our community, Larry was also a previous president of your neighborhood association.
After Larry passed, we received nearly $800 from community members in his memory, most earmarked for food insecurity.
Your Community Development team weighed several options for these funds. It will use them to support the First Congregational Church's food security efforts.
In light of First Congregational's outstanding work, Nelson will match all the donations received in Larry's memory, increasing the total contribution to $1600.
