Affordable Housing Projects Update - May 2024
Construction on a four-level apartment complex will begin this year. When the project is complete, 46 new Nelson neighbors and their families will have access to brand new units.
Muskegon is getting another boost in affordable housing!
Two housing projects were recently awarded federal tax credits, which will help fund the creation of 91 total new units of housing for seniors and working-class families.
One of the approved projects will be built in Nelson Neighborhood on a former McDonald's site. Construction will begin this year and take 15 to 18 months to complete. When finished, units will be available for 46 new Nelson neighbors and their families.
The other project will create 45 housing units for seniors 55 and over at Allen Crossing.
The project is spearheaded by a partnership between The Community Rebuilders, a non-profit focused on affordable housing development, and Wakeman Development Group, a local for-profit developer with a history of successful projects in Muskegon.
The introduction of these new housing developments is a significant step forward for Muskegon. It's a testament to our collective commitment to addressing the housing shortage that many of our residents face.
By providing affordable housing, we are not just building structures, but also fostering stronger, more vibrant communities where working families can find stable homes.
